Morris Spagnol

«A free art, without shape and rules.»

Occidental tradition often puts emotion and passion behind imperturbability and shape.

On the contrary, from the beginning I was attracted by that artistic process in which man disappears as a shape and as a shape creator and he confuses himself with gesture. My works are not born as “studied art” but they rely partly on chance, painting in an impulsive and instinctive way. External factors penetrate and affect the works: the viscous flow of color, the force of gravity, the way the surfaces absorb color. Everything is based on the idea of the union of the controllable and the uncontrollable, the intimate and the apparent.
